Noh Experience Programs

The Ohtsuki Noh Theatre was founded in 1935 as the first Noh theatre in Japan that had chairs for the audience. Our Noh stage was registered as a Registered Tangible Cultural Property (structures) in 2014. The Ohtsuki Noh Theatre offers a variety of programs to allow you to experience Noh.

  Noh Special Experience Program[Duration] Approx. 90 min

  The program includes an introduction to Noh by a Noh actor, a tour of the Theatre including the backstage areas, and experiencing taking part in a performance on the stage.

  【Fees】

  15,000 JPY per person (16,500 JPY incl. tax)

  * The fees cover the rental fees for a Noh mask, tabi footwear and tablet terminal, and a leaflet.

  ①Viewing a video introduction to Noh (approx. 25 min)

  ②An overview of Noh by a Noh actor (approx. 15 min)

  ③A backstage tour led by a Noh actor (approx. 20 min)

  ④Experiencing a Noh stage performance (approx. 30 min)
  Participants will practice movements performed in Noh
  plays under the guidance of a Noh actor, and experience
  performing on the actual Noh stage.

  Viewing the Noh Theatre
  using an audio guide【Duration】Approx. 30 min

  The program includes viewing the Noh Theatre with a help of a recorded audio guide to Noh (Japanese and English).

  【Fees】

  2,000 JPY per person (2,200 JPY incl. tax)

  * The fees cover the rental fees for an audio guide receiver, and a leaflet.

  【Number of participants】

  up to 40 persons

  * Participants should be grade 7 students or older.

  ①Viewing the Noh Theatre as you listen to an audio guide. (20 min）
  * Backstage areas and on-stage are not included.

  ②Experience multilingual commentary on Noh plays on the digital
  signage installed in the lobby (on your own).
